You'd never know it by looking at one of today's tricked out models, but Bimmer's 328 started out life as a svelte sports coupe — a heritage that's being celebrated in the BMW 328 Hommage ($TBA). Created for the 328's 75th birthday, the Hommage is an open-top terror, with a retro meets Mad Max design formed from carbon fiber-reinforced plastic that brings the weight down to 1,720 pounds, and a 3.0L six-cylinder engine that's bound to send the tires blazing.
We're pretty sure Scion would have been the last company we'd have expected to announce a front-engine, rear-wheel drive sports car, but then again, that's why they call it a "concept." The Scion FR-S Concept ($TBA) is a throwback to Toyotas past, like the AE86 generation of the Corolla and the 2000GT, meant to bring fun back to the Camry-maker's extended lineup. It's powered by a flat 2.0-liter boxer engine mated to either a six-speed, short-throw manual or automatic with steering- wheel-mounted paddle shifters, and offers plenty of other niceties, including LED lighting around the headlights and taillights, 20-inch wheels, a low center of gravity, and a "dynamically favorable" front-to-rear weight ratio — but enough with the chit-chat. Just make it already.
Thinking about a new hatchback? You might want to wait a second. The Mercedes-Benz A-Class Concept ($TBA) is the Tri-Star's newest compact concept, but doesn't skimp on the goodies — like a BlueEFFICIENCY 2.0L four-cylinder good for 210 hp, a dual-clutch transmission, a radar-based collision detection system, Adaptive Brake Assist, and museum-worthy looks. Here's to hoping they actually, you know, make the damn thing.
