BMW 328 Hommage

You'd never know it by looking at one of today's tricked out models, but Bimmer's 328 started out life as a svelte sports coupe — a heritage that's being celebrated in the BMW 328 Hommage ($TBA). Created for the 328's 75th birthday, the Hommage is an open-top terror, with a retro meets Mad Max design formed from carbon fiber-reinforced plastic that brings the weight down to 1,720 pounds, and a 3.0L six-cylinder engine that's bound to send the tires blazing.

  • 2012 BMW M5 Concept

If you thought the other luxury car makers were going to take the CTS-V's claims of "fastest production sedan in the world" lying down, you haven't been paying attention. Soon up to challenge the Caddy's reign will be a slightly tweaked version of the 2012 BMW M5 Concept ($TBA). Powered by a high-revving V8 with M TwinPower Turbo Technology, the new M5 will crank out copious horsepower to its seven-speed, double-clutch transmission, with the Active M Differential sending power to each rear wheel independently based on traction, slip angle, and other considerations. Nürburgring tested, Uncrate approved.

  • Rinspeed BamBoo

Who are we to argue with a "grown-up golf cart?" The Rinspeed BamBoo ($TBA) is aimed squarely at the picnic/beach crowd, featuring a German-made 54-kW electric motor good for speeds of up to 75 miles per hour and a battery with 65 miles of range, an onboard foldable bike, a two-piece waterproof design, a communication display in place of the radiator grille, an inflatable roof that doubles as a beach blanket, a key hidden inside a Swiss Army Knife, 17-inch AEZ three-spoke billet aluminum wheels, and an included seven-inch tablet computer. Crazy? Perhaps. Cool? Definitely.
