Flipboard

Flipboard

Another day, another new app that seems hellbent on proving once again why you dropped $500+ on that shiny new iPad. Flipboard (Free) is a new "social magazine" application that grabs info from your Facebook and Twitter feeds, as well as from other sources around the web, and presents them in a magazine-like layout, complete with large images, clean typefaces, and a general panache that goes well beyond the average client — which is making our standalone social apps more than a little nervous.

  • Hulu Plus

Finally, you can watch Hulu on your TV, iPhone, or iPad — so long as you're willing to pay for it. Hulu Plus ($10) is a new ad-supported subscription service from the online video house that lets users watch a huge number of shows — including current season episodes of shows like 30 Rock, Modern Family, and Family Guy, as well as the entire run of classics like The X-Files, Arrested Development, and Miami Vice — in streaming 720p HD on a wide range of devices, including Internet-enabled TVs and Blu-ray players from Samsung and Sony, the PS3, the Xbox 360, and, of course, Apple's iDevices.

  • Guitar Hero for iPhone

Rock your way to (virtual) stardom where ever you might roam with Guitar Hero for iPhone ($3). This pocketable version of the console music game features a unique interface that lets you tap, strum, whammy, and slide your way through each song, with six included tracks from the likes The Rolling Stones, Weezer, Vampire Weekend, and The White Stripes, with tons more available from within the app — for a price. Our advice would be to get some practice in while you can, before you start attracting even more attention to yourself with that shiny new iPhone 4.
