1955 Walt Disney Type 1 Original Photograph

At the time Disneyland was under development, no one knew what a theme park was. Recognizing the power of television to help explain to potential guests his forthcoming "Happiest Place on Earth", Walt entered into an agreement with ABC to air Walt Disney's Disneyland. Hosted by Walt himself, the show mixed previews of the park with episodes based on the park's different lands. While it's not clear if this original Type 1 photo was taken during filming for one of those shows, it is clear from the 1955 stamps on the back that it was used by the Houston Post during Disneyland's opening months. The photo itself shows Walt in front of an ABC-TV camera, surrounded by plush toy versions of some of his most beloved characters. An inscription on the back labels the photo as "Walt Disney Cartoonist & Producer", further signaling that this photo is from the beginnings of his company's growth into a household name. The photo arrives in a white custom frame with white acid-free mats, a clear frame back through which to view the original details, and a UV protective acrylic cover.

A Type 1 photograph is a historical photograph that was developed from the original negative during the time period in which it was taken, usually by a publication.
