1970 Porsche 914/6 GT Special Project

The 914 was born out of necessity for both Porsche and Volkswagen. Porsche needed a new entry-level model and Volkswagen wanted a range-topping sports car. The result was the mid-engine 914, with the flat-four and flat-six versions sold as Porsches in the US and the flat-four as a VW outside North America. Slow sales caused the cancellation of the flat-six 914/6 version in 1972, with just 3,351 produced. This 1970 914/6 is one of those rare few. The car spent 17 months with the Porsche Race Department before being officially sold in 1971 with 68 kilometers to Alan Johnson of Bozzani Porsche Audi in Monrovia, California. In 1972 the car was sold and moved to Oklahoma, where the new owners planned to race it. SCCA rules changes prohibited that, and the car remained in the care of the original owners until 2003 when it was sold, restored, and participated in several vintage racing events. This 914/6 is now up for sale again, and remains in great condition as a factory-built racing example.
