The First-Ever Lamborghini Countach LP500S
The Lamborghini Countach received its third update with the debut of the LP500S at the 1982 Geneva Motor Show. What would go on to be the most iconic design of the 15-year production run featured a larger V12 bored out to 4.8 liters, making 375 horsepower at 7,500 RPM — a massive output for the time. 0-60 times dropped to less than five seconds, with a top speed in excess of 180 MPH — for those that had the gall to keep the accelerator floored for that long. This 1982 LP500S is the same car that sat on display at the Geneva show, one of the first five LP500Ss, built and one of five to wear a "5L" badge. The car was sold new in Italy before being shipped to the US, where it was bought by rock royalty when Quiet Riot lead guitarist Carlos Cavazo. The original Weber carbs were swapped to a BMW-type fuel injection system to make the car California-legal, before spending 20 years in storage at a California repair shop. The current owner bought the car in as-is condition and is now offering it for sale.
