1984 Porsche 911 SC RS Gruppe B Evolutionsserie

This October, one of the rarest Porsche 911s ever made will cross the auction block at the 2024 Chattanooga Motorcar Festival. Known internally as the Type 954 SC RS, the car here is the last of 21 made to homologate the model for FIA Group B rally racing. Outwardly, this 911 looks like a fairly standard 954-generation 911. A closer look reveals Turbo-style bodywork with aluminum doors, front fenders, and hood, fiberglass bumpers, thinner glass, and no soundproofing. Underneath the car is an aluminum skid plate with brakes derived from the 917 Le Mans prototype race cars. Weighing just 2,160 pounds, this 911 SC RS is powered by a mechanically fuel-injected 3.0-liter flat-six making over 250 horsepower. Originally delivered to South Africa, the car was prepped to race but competed in only one event and remained with the original owner for 20 years. Showing just over 3,000 total miles, this 911 SC RS could fetch as much as $3.5 million when it crosses the auction block.
