1988 ItalDesign Aztec Roadster

Much like the nuclear-powered flying cars of the '50s, the glorious neon cyberpunk future of the '80s never arrived. The ItalDesign Aztec, however, did arrive — and not from a dark, dystopian future. The Aztec was one of three cars made to celebrate ItalDesign's 20th anniversary. Plans were to build 50 cars, but only 25 were produced — including chassis no. 12, the car pictured here. In true '80s form, the Aztec is powered by a turbocharged five-cylinder from Audi with an all-wheel-drive system sourced from the Lancia Delta. The driver and passenger enter through conventional doors with the twin fairings pivoting up to allow entry. The car goes to auction via Broadarrow during the 2024 Monterey Car Week.
