2022 Audi Dakar Rally Prototype

Audi was a dominant force in rally racing throughout the '80s and helped to make all-wheel-drive a ubiquitous feature of modern automobiles. In 2022, Audi will return to the sport with the Dakar rally and a hybrid electric prototype built to tackle the world's most punishing race. In order to cover the distance between segments, the Dakar prototype will use Audi's Turbo Fuel Stratified Injection engine to charge the battery via a highly-efficient energy converter. With its debut still over a year away, the teaser image shows the prototype draped in a cloth, but a wide, flat body, large tires, and long-travel suspension typical of Dakar racers are visible. Audi is also planning to return to the World Endurance Championship, meaning it will be making a return to Le Mans where it dominated less than a decade ago.
