2024 Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe

Mercedes and AMG are rounding off the GT's sharper edges with the second generation of the two-place grand tourer. Responding to customer calls for better practicality, Mercedes answered by basing the new GT on the SL roadster, resulting in a platform 7.1 inches longer overall, 1.6 inches wider, and a 2.8-inch longer wheelbase. The previous-generation GT's rear-wheel-drive is gone, replaced by an all-wheel-drive system, while AMG's 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 comes in 469 and 577 horsepower tunes. A nine-speed automatic with a clutch pack sits directly behind the motor instead of the former GT's rear-mounted transaxle, with the engine now placed directly over the front axle instead of behind it — meaning increased interior room. Rear-wheel steering and semi-active suspension are standard. Test mules with charging ports indicate a plug-in hybrid model to come. The new GT goes on sale in the first half of 2024.
