2026 Honda Prelude

The Prelude is back. Introduced in 1978, the sport-tourer Prelude ended production in 2001 after four generations and will return in 2025. The new Prelude continues the sport coupe tradition, this time with a hybrid drivetrain and the debut of Honda's S+ Shift system. The hybrid system pairs a naturally aspirated engine with dual motors, with estimates of 200 horsepower total on tap. The S+ Shift system isn't a transmission per se, but rather a function of the powertrain. The system controls RPM during acceleration and deceleration for sharper shifts. In a turn, S+ Shift will hold the gear to keep the car on the desired line. Technically, the Prelude doesn't have a transmission but can be shifted manually via paddle shifters. The new Prelude arrives in the US late next year.
