2027 Mercedes-Benz EQS

For years, steer-by-wire stayed locked in concept cars and prototypes. The 2027 Mercedes EQS brings it to a production car for the first time from a German automaker, replacing the mechanical steering column with electronic signals and pairing the system with a yoke that sweeps just 170 degrees lock-to-lock. It's the headline feature on what is otherwise the biggest overhaul to the electric flagship since it launched in 2021. The structural story is a jump to 800-volt architecture and 350 kW DC fast charging, which adds approximately 200 miles of range in 10 minutes and extends total EPA-estimated range to around 425 miles. New in-house motors and a two-speed rear transmission push output as high as 576 hp. AIRMATIC air suspension gains cloud-based damper control that reads data from the car ahead to adjust proactively. Inside, the standard 55-inch MBUX Hyperscreen runs the new MB.OS operating system, rear seats get 13.1-inch screens, and the front seatbelts are heated. U.S. deliveries begin in the second half of 2026.
