$300 Handmade Chocolate Egg from Knipschildt
Easter has a new centerpiece. It comes from Fritz Knipschildt, the Denmark-born chocolatier whose La Madeline au Truffe was recognized by Forbes as the most expensive chocolate in the world. His Giant Milk Chocolate Speckled Dinosaur Egg is handmade from house-blended milk chocolate, hand-speckled with white and dark chocolate, and comes in at 15 lbs and 14 by 8 by 8 inches, which is to say it will not be confused with anything at the grocery store. Knipschildt, who has been fusing old European craftsmanship with avant-garde flavors out of his Norwalk, Connecticut atelier since 1999, beat Bobby Flay on Throwdown and earned the trust of Martha Stewart along the way. The egg serves 16 and keeps for up to six months in a cool, dark place. The question isn't whether to get one. It's how you'll cut into it.
