Andy Warhol's BMW M1 Art Car
In 1975, French racecar driver Herve Poulain asked American artist and personal friend to paint his BMW 3.0 CSL race car, which Poulain drove in that year's 24 Hours of Le Mans. Other artists have gone on to use BMW's as canvases, turning the art of automobiles into literal works of art. Perhaps the most famous BMW Art Car is the BMW M1 painted by art revolutionary Andy Warhol. In typical Warhol style, it took the artist about 30 minutes to complete the project, using wide brush strokes combined with a loose, abstract style. When photographer Stephan Bauer won BMW's social media photography competition, he chose Warhol's Art Car as his subject for a photo shoot with spectacular results.
