Andy Warhol's Queen Elizabeth II

Based on the first official photograph of Queen Elizabeth II, taken by the Royal photographer Peter Grugeon and released for the Silver Jubilee celebrations of 1977, Andy Warhol's Queen Elizabeth II is nearly iconic as the photograph itself. Part of the Reigning Queens series, this example is among the Royal Editions, infused with shimmering diamond dust — the Queen herself acquired a set of four prints for the 2012 Diamond Jubilee. Screenprinted on Lenox Museum Board, this signed and numbered original measures 39.4" x 31.6", dates to 1985, and is up for auction now with bids closing on September 18th.
