At the core of the iPhone is iOS. For the fifteenth release, Apple has a load of new features. An overhauled FaceTime experience adds spatial audio, voice isolation, Portrait mode, shareable FaceTime links that also work on Windows and Android devices via the browser, and a SharePlay feature for listening to music, watching movies, or using apps via screen sharing. Messages gets new features that integrate with Photos, Music, News, Safari, Podcasts, and Apple TV to make it easier to find shared media. Revamped Notifications offers a scheduled summary for non-essential notifications and Focus modes that allow only certain apps to send notifications at certain times. A new AI-based Live Text feature works across the system to make text in photos selectable and searchable, while Spotlight has been revamped to gather relative information about people, places, movies, and shows. Joined by improvements to Photos, Wallet, Weather, and Maps, it will be a worthwhile upgrade when it arrives this fall.
