Aptera Solar Charging Vehicle
Some of the best innovations come from frustration — in this case, sitting in Southern California's epic traffic snarls. This is what led Steve Fambro to start Aptera, with the goal of a mobility solution that could overcome electric vehicles' most glaring problems — range and charge times. Aptera's first car is a reverse tricycle that covers the hood, roof, and dash in solar panels to charge on-the-go, extending range and drastically reducing downtime while charging. Aptera claims a massive 1,000-mile range, with the caveat of driving in "sunnier climes", although even half that would be a huge improvement. Engineered to be lightweight and ultra-aerodynamic, the car doesn't skip on performance either — Aptera claims a sub-four second 0-60 MPH time. The car is expected to enter production sometime in 2022.
