2006 Volkswagen GTI Mk V

2006 Volkswagen GTI Mk V

I hate this car. Not because it has terrible performance or lame looks — quite the contrary. I hate this car because it's making me second guess my choice of purchasing a 2006 Civic a couple months ago. I'm pretty sure I should have waited. The all-new Volkswagen GTI Mk V (starting at $21,990) has a 2.0 liter turbo 4-cylinder engine producing 200-hp, an aggressive body and all the hatchback utility you could want. It's also got awesome plaid seats, a 6-disc in-dash CD changer, 32 mpg on the highway, 17-inch wheels and Xenon projector beam headlights. Early reviews say the fifth-generation GTI has all the speed, handling and class of the European version. As Volkswagen's great commercials say, the GTI is pre-tuned by German engineers.

  • 2006 Jaguar XK Coupe

While looking like a car that costs at least twice as much, the 2006 Jaguar XK Coupe (starts at $70,500) brings the luxury sports car goods at a semi-reasonable price. This ride comes with Automatic climate control, a 320-watt Alpine premium sound system, and 12-way power-adjustable driver and front passenger standard — and it doesn't skimp on power, either, featuring a 294-horsepower 4.2-liter V8. We could definitely see Bond driving it in his next adventure — that is, if they ever get around to making it.

  • 2006 Civic Si

The first car we featured on Uncrate was a Civic Si, the 2005 hatchback model. Honda has only had time to improve the formula since then, and the result is the 2006 Civic Si Coupe ($TBA). With a 197 horsepower i-VTEC engine, 17” alloy wheels, a 350-watt 7-speaker sound system, aluminum and leather trim, and safety features such as front, side, and side curtain airbags, it’s the best Si yet. Sealing the deal for us, however, is the optional satellite-linked navigation system and iPod adapter — now we just have to hope Santa brings us one when they become available in December.
