Faraday Future FF 91

We're not sure whether to call it an SUV or a sedan — its feature list reads more like a concept — but the Faraday Future FF 91 is definitely interesting. Built on an all-electric, flexible powertrain system, its chassis and body are a single form for better handling and safety. That's doubly important since its multi-motor all-wheel drive system and 130 kWh battery are capable of producing 1,050 hp, a 0-60 time of under 2.4 seconds, and a range of 378 miles. The rest of the tech is equally impressive. Pop-up 3D lidar headlines an autonomous system that also includes 10 high definition cameras, 13 long and short range radars and 12 ultrasonic sensors. Facial recognition cameras on the exterior unlock the door for you automatically, then adjust settings like seating position, temperature, and driving style to suit your preferences, while an expression- and mood-sensing camera on the interior can prompt an experience to match or improve your mood, using music, temperature, scent, content, massage and more. Production starts in early 2018, with reservations available now for $5,000 a unit.

  • Fisker EMotion Sedan

    Given the company's past track record, you'd do well not to get your hopes up for the Fisker EMotion Sedan — although that won't be easy. Using graphene-infused battery technology, it gets a claimed driving range of 400 miles, in addition to a top speed of 161 mph. Hardware for fully autonomous operation is also on the docket, as well as more interior space than its competitors, infotainment systems for both front and rear passengers, and a sporty body that's both aerodynamic and aggressive. Expect to see a fully-working prototype sometime next year, with further details arriving after that.

    It's been six years since the last all-new 5 Series hit the road, so it's overdue for a makeover. The 2017 BMW 5 Series Sedan is far more than that. As you'd expect from a modern luxury car, it has a host of autonomous features that can help drive the car, from a dead stop all the way up to 130 mph. A variety of twin-turbo powerplants will be available, ranging from a 2.0L inline four making 252 hp to a hybrid making the same total power, all the way up to a 462hp V8. The cockpit is equally advanced, with a gesture-recognizing iDrive controller, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a head-up display, and intelligent voice assistant, and it's all encased in a sleek, aerodynamic new body offering the best drag coefficient in its class.
