The Ivey's Hotel

Housed in the J.B. Ivey & Company Department Store, The Ivey's Hotel brings a bit of Parisian charm to the heart of Uptown Charlotte. The restoration of the landmark preserved much of its historic characteristics, while also introducing European influences throughout the decor. Each of the 42 rooms feature reclaimed 400-year-old French oak floors, rich velvet furniture, custom lighting, and curated artwork, while the suites offer balconies overlooking the city. Outfitted in vintage wood and weathered leather furniture, The Library Lounge is where you'll start your day with a house-made espresso and end it with a glass of wine.

  • Clayoquot Wilderness Resort

Situated along the waterfront on Vancouver Island, the Clayoquot Wilderness Resort is so remote it's only accessible by floatplane. Guests are shuttled in by horse-drawn carriage to 25 white canvas tents lining the water's edge. Every room is furnished with king beds, antique furnishings, heated bathroom floors, an outdoor shower, and a private deck. Salvaged cedar walkways lead guest to the spa, dining tents, the Cookhouse, and the Ivan Hoe lounge, a new addition to the property where guests can relax and gaze at the Bedwell River behind 10-foot glazed walls. Due to its rustic location, the water and forest provide horseback riding, fishing, whale-watching, and kayaking, all included in your stay. For the non-traditional adventure, their on-site helicopter can take any activity — fishing, zip lining, even yoga — off the ground.

  • Cayo Espanto

Just off the coast of Belize, Cayo Espanto offers all the perks of a private island without actually having to own it. The resort consists of just seven villas, each situated so that guests will feel like they're the only ones around. They range from one-bedroom beachfront to an overwater bungalow with a glass-bottom floor. Regardless of your choice, every villa includes its own plunge pool, private dock with lounge chairs, and a strip of white-sand beach. A custom menu is crafted specifically to each guest by the on-site chefs and is served in your own dining room or veranda. Along with a spa, the island also hosts some of the best snorkeling and scuba diving thanks to the world's second largest barrier reef.
