BMW i3
For fifty years, the 3 Series has been the car every other sports sedan measured itself against. Now it goes electric. The new i3 is built on a clean-sheet Neue Klasse EV platform and launches as the i3 50 xDrive, putting 469 horsepower and 476 lb-ft of torque through dual motors with an estimated 440 miles of EPA range. A 400 kW charging system means you can add roughly 250 miles back in around 10 minutes. A new battery design cuts weight and adds rigidity, while four onboard computers handle driving, braking, and recuperation, with 98% of braking handled through regeneration alone. Inside, a 17.9-inch touchscreen anchors a Neue Klasse cabin topped by BMW's Panoramic Vision display, which projects speed and battery data directly across the base of the windshield. An optional Level 2+ Symbiotic Drive system adds autonomous assistance without taking you out of the equation. Arriving later this year. The benchmark just reset.
