Case Astronaut Knife
When other military knives didn't meet NASA's specific criteria for use in manned spacecraft, they contacted Case to make one just for them. The Astronaut Knife M-1 was the result. The knife had a machete-style blade, with a sharp cutting edge, saw teeth on the back, a blunt base for prying, and an ultra-lightweight synthetic handle that was also fume-free so as to not upset the purity of the air inside the craft. Being reissued as a limited edition to honor the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11's Moon landing — the knives were on board every Gemini and Apollo mission — this new version carries a serial number on the blade and comes in a two-piece box.
Blade Length: 11.75" / Overall Length: 17" / Weight: 10.8 oz.
