Gin isn't commonly associated with barrel aging, but Mississippi-based Cathead Distillery is out to change that with its Bristow Barrel Aged Reserve line. Three expressions are available, aged for one, four, and seven years in brand new American oak barrels. The oak imparts depth and character to the gin's mix of 11 botanicals, adding citrus, caramel, and vanilla notes to the proceedings. All three are bottled at 56.5% ABV; the 1-Year is ideal for cocktail use, while Cathead recommends enjoying the 4- and 7-Year gins either neat or over an ice block. Available in select markets across the south and southeast, ordering via the distillery's online store is coming soon.
