Chernobyl Exclusion Zone Tour
HBO's miniseries following the tragic nuclear accident of 1986 has inspired a surge of interest in the city of Pripyat and the neighboring power plant. To feed the need of hungry fans, Atlas Obscura has organized the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone Tour. The 11-day excursion will guide guests through the radioactive wasteland to explore ground zero, the reactors, and other facilities within the nuclear power plant. Although, as you're visiting the site, keep in mind the wishes of the show's creator Craig Main and "please remember that a terrible tragedy occurred there. Comport yourselves with respect for all who suffered and sacrificed." The experience also consists of other stops in the historic region of Bessarabia, including Ukraine's Pechersk Lavra monastery, the Odessa Catacombs, and the residence of former president Viktor Yanukovych where his collection of exotic cars is still on display.
