Diamond Aircraft eDA40 Electric Airplane

Since its introduction in 1997, the Diamond DA40 has proven to be one of the most popular, versatile general aviation craft available. Diamond is about to launch a new era for the DA40, and general aviation, with the eDA40, powered by an all-electric propulsion system and DC fast-charging by Electric Power Systems. This makes the eDA40 the first plane to be certified under FAA and European GA rules with fast charging, with full certification expected in 2023. Diamond estimates 90 minutes of flight time, 20 minutes to fully recharge from zero, and a 40% reduction in operating costs versus a piston-engine DA40. All the benefits of the DA40 airframe carry over, with four-person seating and excellent flight characteristics.
