Eclipse Over the Atlantic

On August 2, 2027, the moon will block the sun for more than four minutes over Morocco's Atlantic coast, one of the longest total solar eclipses this century will see. Black Tomato has built a four-day gathering around it at La Fiermontina Ocean, a dune-side eco-estate that sits directly in the path of totality. Astronomer Dr. Jenifer Millard, the BBC contributor and host of Awesome Astronomy, leads the stargazing sessions and stays through eclipse morning, when totality hits at 9:44 a.m. and a champagne brunch follows once the sky clears. In between, guests choose their own pace: a cooking class with a local dada learning to build a tajine, a trek to Mezgalef, paddleboarding along the coast, horseback riding on the beach, or a Moroccan hammam ritual. Black Tomato lets you extend the trip on either side. Add four days and continue south to Marrakech and the Atlas Mountains, with souk visits, sidecar rides through the medina, and mountain hikes. Or add ten and head to Spain, through Seville, Madrid, and the Basque Country for flamenco lessons and a stop at the Alhambra, or Portugal, from Lisbon's streets down to the beaches of Comporta. However you customize it, the eclipse is likely to be the main event.
