To kick off the launch of Uncrate Issue 05 and the return of our favorite not-smartphone, the Punkt MP02, we've partnered with Punkt, Grand Classics, and Mark Ronson to host a VIP screening of 1983's The King of Comedy, staring Robert De Niro. Personally selected by Mark Ronson, the film is a timely choice given its direct influence on this month's release of Joker, and as De Niro also appears in Joker as homage to his character in The King of Comedy. On October 16th at the Public Arts venue, at New York's Public Hotel, a select group of guests and friends of Mark Ronson, Punkt, Grand Classics, and Uncrate gathered for the screening and cocktails. Punkt, maker's of minimalist technology, chose to partner with Grand Classics on this screening due the increasingly frustrating effect of smartphones on the film community. Often used to snap pictures that leak a film's plot details well before release, smartphones have become a drag on sets around the world. Punkt's MP02 phone, a camera-less work of art, fixes not only this issue but allows anyone to disconnect from the distracting while remaining connected via a good old fashioned phone call or basic text message.
