GM Infantry Squad Vehicle

General Motors Defense just landed a $214 million contract to build the Infantry Squad Vehicle for the US Armed Forces. Designed to for lightweight and rapid response, the ISV is based on the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 and uses 90% off-the-shelf parts from the production vehicle. The ISV meets criteria set by the government, including being able to be carried in a sling underneath a Blackhawk and able to fit inside a Chinook helicopter. The biggest difference from the commercially-available Colorado is the body, or lack thereof — the ISV uses a stripped-down frame with composite hood and fenders that can be built in several configurations.
