Herman Miller x 3Sixteen Eames Lounge Chair

Charles Eames' original idea for his iconic lounger was to create a chair that resembled "a well-used first baseman's mitt," and it was with that spirit in mind that the Herman Miller x 3Sixteen Eames Lounge Chair was born. This collaborative effort replaces the chair's normal seating surface with a natural vegetable-tanned leather that is meant to darken over time, eventually developing a rich dark brown patina. The special material is paired with a hand-oiled Santos Palisander wood veneer shell, the closest sustainable match to the original's Brazilian rosewood. Unfortunately for the rest of us, only three sets were produced especially for 3sixteen, and they're not for sale — though you can catch one on display at the Pop Up Flea in NYC Dec. 11th-13th.
