Icon 1949 Mercury EV Derelict Coupe
Icon is known for taking classic 4x4s and updating them with modern engines and creature comforts. With EVs entering the mass market, it was only a matter of time before Icon caught the electric bug and added their signature touch to a battery-powered classic. Commissioned by a long-time client, this 1949 Mercury is powered by dual electric motors and a Tesla Performance 85kWh battery array. The package is good for 400 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, taking this Merc to a top speed of 120 MPH and up to 150-200 miles from home. A fast charger is hidden behind a tilting front license plate and can fully charge the car in less than 1.5 hours. Icon even paid homage to the original engine, disguising the Tesla modules and battery controllers in aluminum covers that mimic the look of a V8. With their latest project, Icon proves that an electric future doesn't have to mean leaving classic cars behind.
