Jean-Michel Basquiat's Warrior
In an upcoming global event at Christie's Hong Kong, Jean-Michel Basquiat's Warrior will be auctioned off at a potentially record-breaking price. If the piece reaches its estimated value, it'll become the most expensive Western artwork ever offered in Asia, further slating the artist as one of the most important painters of the last half-century. Completed in 1982 at the height of his career, the painting is made from acrylic, oil stick, and spray paint on a wood panel and depicts a sword-wielding warrior with intense eyes. The auction will take place on March 23, 2021, as part of the live-stream, single-lot sale We Are All Warriors.
