基本的な考えとして、トラックは荷物を移動させるためのツールである。GMの自動運転トラック「Surus」はこの考え方をほぼそのまま表現した一台だ。水素電池システムを動力とした「Surus(サイレント・ユーティリティ・ローバー・ユニバーサル・スーパーストラクチャー）は、自動運転機能によって運転手は一切必要ない。つまり、運転手台も必要ない。これは、貨物を載せるだけのプラットホームなのだ。一度の充電で約645km走行する。
