1935年に発売されたオリジナル「タンバール」は、ソフトフォーカスとボケ味で瞬く間に好評価を得たレンズだ。新しい「ライカ タンバールM 1:2.2/90レンズ」もオリジナルと同様に被写体を写す。レンズ構成は3群4枚。単層レンズコーティングでオリジナルと同じ独特なソフトフォーカスが得られる。また、20枚の絞り羽根でパーフェクトな丸いボケを表現。外観のデザインもオリジナルとほぼ同じく、黒仕上げで同じ形状、絞りの目盛りには白と赤の刻印をあしらっている。
