19世紀のブルックリンの長屋を、なめらかな新しいデザインで現代風に作り変えたスイッチバック・ハウス。その名の通り、まず一つ目のポイントは昔ながらの積み重ね式の階段を無くしスイッチバックに取り替えたこと。そして新しい廊下の上に天窓を取り付けた。この新しいレイアウトにより元の廊下を無くし、空間を広げ、隣り合う部屋同士をつなげられるように変えた。また上から入る自然光が各階に注ぎ込み、照明なしでも明るい室内に。歴史的建築物が、明るく開放的な変化を遂げた。
