Kona Village

Initially opened in the 1960s, Kona Village was a regular vacation spot for Steve Jobs. The Apple founder frequented the Kahuwai Bay resort and even had a fixed retainer for one of the villas. Unfortunately, the Hawaiian retreat was destroyed during the 2011 tsunami, but the Hawaiian icon is back after a seven-year renovation. The rebuild was overseen by Walker Warner Architects and NICOLEHOLLIS, who salvaged and reused materials to maintain the integrity of the original. The property consists of rows of thatched-roof hales lining the coast, featuring wood-lined interiors, spacious lanais, and furniture from local artisans. Also on the site are a spa and two resorts serving dishes made from ingredients from the Big Island.
