Kurt Cobain's Smashed Aria Pro II Guitar

In 1990, no one knew what Nirvana would become. Only 1,500 people were at the Motorsports International Garage Show in Seattle on September 22 to see Kurt Cobain smash this Aria Pro II Cardinal Series Guitar. One of Cobain's favorites on that summer's tour, it was procured by one of the night's security workers, who gave Cobain the pickups (at his request), leaving the natural wood finish husk you see here. "Nirvana" is carved into what remains of the neck, and the former instrument is accompanied by a copy of Nirvana Live 1994, which has a photo of Kurt preparing to destroy the guitar on the cover.
