Kurt Cobain's Smells Like Teen Spirit Guitar

When Nirvana changed the course of popular music in 1991, Kurt Cobain made this 1969 Fender Mustang an icon. Prominently featured in the "Smells Like Teen Spirit" music video, the guitar will go to auction in late May 2022 at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York. Originally made as a budget model in the Fender lineup, Nirvana and trailblazers like Sonic Youth helped make forgotten Fender models like the Mustang and Jazzmaster the guitar of choice for kids in bedrooms everywhere. In addition to the Mustang, an NFT featuring a 3D model of the guitar and narration by Cobain's guitar tech Earnie Bailey and the only surviving car driven by Cobain — a 1965 Dodge Dart 170 — will be crossing the block as well.
