Lotus Theory 1 Concept EV
Lotus is charting a path for the future with its most forward-looking concept in decades — with a heavy does of the classic Espirit. The Lotus Theory 1 uses a dual-motor EV powertrain making 986 horsepower, giving the concept a 199 MPH top speed and a sub-2.5 second 0-62 time. A 70kWh battery gives up to 250 miles of range when driving sensibly. A carbon fiber body helps keep weight at a reasonable but still Chapman-scoffing 3,520 pounds. The Theory 1's extreme wedge shape features plenty of exposed carbon fiber, with butterfly doors and a McLaren F1-style three-seat interior. The interior features Lotuswear, a collaboration with Motorskins that adds a system of adaptive textile-covered robotics that give the driver haptic feedback through the seat and steering wheel. These tiny inflatable pods indicate road direction to the driver or could even function as buttons. With heavyweight electric vehicles the foreseeable future, the Theory 1 could be a return to form for the British sportscar maker.
