Mary Shelley's Frankenstein

Written by Lake Geneva on a dare from Lord Byron, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein is no less a literary classic that has had a huge effect on pop culture as a whole. It was first published anonymously in 1818; this example is from 1881, but nonetheless extremely rare. It has been preserved over the last 130 years in clean, uncut condition, with little fanfare for the work that lies inside, and complete with the original title, Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus. intact. It was recently sold at auction by Christie's for $1.17 Million and is no doubt going to be an all-time great Halloween gift for some monster lover.
