MINI Cooper SE Coupe
The MINI Cooper is one of the best candidates for an all-electric model — and now it has one. The MINI Cooper SE retains the styling, front-wheel-drive, and trademark handling of its ICE stablemates, but with a 181 horsepower electric motor and a 32.6 kWh lithium-ion battery pack mounted low in the chassis. 0-62 comes in 7.3 seconds with a top speed of 93 MPH and a range of 146-167 miles. Four driving modes — Sport, MID, Green, and Green+ — vary steering feel, power delivery, and energy efficiency, with a switch that controls the level of regeneration and subsequent deacceleration characteristics. On the exterior, the SE separates itself with a yellow grille insert, mirrors, and futuristic 17" wheels, along with a speaker system that blasts "an acoustic presence" that is classic MINI. Charging takes 2.5 hours to 80% on a standard outlet or 35 minutes on a DC fast-charging system. The MINI Cooper SE will arrive next year with pricing and availability to come soon.
