Museum of Underwater Art

Situated at the bottom the Great Barrier Reef in Townsville, Australia, the Museum of Underwater Art is a collection of sunken installations aiming to inspire reef conservation, restoration and education. The exhibit is comprised of statures conceptualized by underwater sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor that are designed to attract the area's vibrant marine life. Two of the four planned installations have been completed, including the Coral Greenhouse at John Brewer Reef and the Ocean Siren alongside the Strand Jetty. The former is a 235-square foot piece that requires scuba or snorkeling gear to explore while the latter is 13-foot, color changing stature that can be viewed from the pier. The remaining two exhibits are expected to be completed in 2021.
