Napoleon Bonaparte's Bicorne Hat

Aside from his small stature, perhaps the most famous thing about Napoleon Bonaparte was his signature bicorne hat, worn shoulder-to-shoulder — or en bataille — instead of front to back as was common at the time. This particular hat was crafted by Poupard, Napoleon's official hatmaker, and was personally gifted by the Emperor to General Mouton. It comes to auction next month in Paris as one of roughly 100 lots from the collection of prominent French antiques collector Pierre-Jean Chalençon, along with a herald sword and stick used during Napoleon's 1804 coronation ceremony at Notre-Dame de Paris among other fascinating relics.
