Pablo Picasso's Tete de femme
The Metropolitan Museum of Art is letting go of Pablo Picasso's Tete de femme. Created in 1909, the bronze sculpture of a women's head is the artist's first to be created in Cubist style. The significant piece was donated to the museum by heiress and philanthropist Florene M. Schoenborn over 20 years, and after receiving another cast of the work from Leonard Lauder, the Met chose to deaccession the piece and use the proceeds for new acquisitions to its permanent collection. The sculpture will be auctioned by Christie's as part of the New York 20th Century Art evening sale this May and is expected to bring close to $30 million.
