Paul Newman Go-Kart Press Photo
Before the Datsun 510, before Le Mans, before Newman/Haas Racing, there was a go-kart. This original vintage press photograph shows Paul Newman at speed on a kart track, helmeted and hunched over the wheel, the engine visible behind his right shoulder and the background blurred with motion. Shot in August 1962 at the Go Kart Raceway in Azusa, California, the print was distributed through Globe Photos, New York, with a Bulls Presstjänst Stockholm syndication stamp for single-use publication in Sweden. Newman wouldn't begin serious racing until 1972. And he wouldn't finish second overall at Le Mans for another seven years after that. This was just the itch.
