Picasso's Femme au Béret Mauve
After being held in a private collection since 1984, Picasso's Femme au Béret Mauve will come out of hiding and go up for auction. The portrait was created in March of 1937 and features the artist's greatest muse Marie-Therese Walter — a long-term partner of the artist and the mother of his daughter Maya. Painted in Le Tremblay-Sur-Mauldre, France during the Spanish Civil War, the colorful painting contrasts Picasso's personal turmoil at the time, as well as the political strife brought on by the war. The piece will be on display in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Paris, Hong Kong, and New York before it's sold on May 13, 2021, as part of Bonhams' Impressionist and Modern Art sale.
