Renault x Ora Ito R17 Electric Restomod

Reaching deep into the archives, Renault and designer Ora Ito have unveiled an electromodded version of the classic 17, originally launched in 1971. Despite the similarities, little remains of the original 17. A new carbon fiber chassis is draped in widened bodywork that recalls the original, with Ito giving it a modern makeover. The electric drivetrain only makes 270 horsepower in a rear-wheel drive configuration — still a massive improvement over the 17's 95 horsepower. Inside, Ito draws heavily from the original, with digital gauges in individual pods and a soft-square steering wheel. The R17 is a one-off factory prototype, with Renault offering no plans for production.
