Amazon-backed Ring is best known for its doorbell cams, but for a couple of years, it's also offered home security systems. Its second-generation kit just launched, and it improves upon the original in several ways. The updated keypad has one-touch buttons to request police, fire, or medical assistance with a single tap, and the redesigned motion detectors and contact sensors are both smaller and easier to mount. The system can be monitored and controlled via app or through Alexa, and 24/7 professional monitoring is also available via the Protect Plus plan. The five-piece system comes with a base station, keypad, contact sensor, motion detector, and range extender; there are also eight- and 14-piece kits for larger homes and all of them can be expanded as needed.
