Scania AXL Concept Truck
Formed in 1911, Sweden-based Scania is a worldwide manufacturer of heavy vehicles and buses. Their long history of technical innovation is on full display with the AXL concept, a massive autonomous dump truck. Built on an existing chassis with a biodiesel engine, the AXL uses seven cameras, multiple radars, and a laser to traverse the environment around it. While most of the specs are under wraps, this concept isn't a render — Scania shows the truck operating in a gravel pit and even performing a wild powerslide. While driverless cars are a long way off from public roadways, on-site heavy-duty applications like the AXL is designed for might be the first place autonomous vehicles make their appearance.
