There's a certain distance, say 2-3 miles, where a destination is too close to make a drive, yet too far for walking. While bikes and scooters are alternatives here, both put the rider in danger of getting hit by traffic. It's against this backdrop that Shift Robotics created the Moonwalkers. Built around a brushless DC motor, they distribute power across eight wheels to boost walking speeds by up to 250%. An ergonomic hinge system allows the foot to bend naturally at the toes, onboard AI uses machine learning to adapt to the wearer's gait, and they strap over the top of traditional footwear, so they can easily be removed once the destination is reached. IP54 water-resistant, they charge over USB-C in as little as 1.5 hours and have a range of 5-7 miles with a top speed of 7 mph.
