SpaceX Martian Base
SpaceX founder Elon Musk has made no secret of his ambitions to get humanity to Mars, sooner rather than later. Now he's given us a look at what a Martian outpost might look like. Dubbed Mars Base Alpha, it would consist of a main, dome-like base building flanked by smaller structures, all set near a series of launch pads. As for getting to the Red Planet, SpaceX is planning to use its BFR (Big Falcon Rocket) to begin carrying cargo there by 2022, with the base potentially being built as soon as 2028. In the meantime, the company plans to start BFR testing next year, with its first manned private passenger lunar mission to come afterward.
