The iPod was a success because it did one thing extremely well: play music. Spotify is looking to replicate that experience with the Car Thing. As the name suggests, it's made for the car, connecting to the stereo via Bluetooth or AUX and providing a dedicated connection to the service. It has a dial that can be used to navigate through playlists or songs, four preset buttons on top that can be programmed to take listeners straight to favorite playlists or artists, and a host of included mounts to make sure it stays secure in the vehicle. It also enables hands-free control with a "Hey Spotify" prompt and is currently available via waitlist, with selected users paying only shipping to receive the device.
